Five days to live
Hayden Sanchez has failed at every trade his father set him to. On the morning he is thrown out of the house with five shillings to his name, he spends all of it on a fortune-teller — and she tells him he will be poisoned, and dead, within five days.
He has never quite believed her. He has also never known her to be wrong.
Five days is not enough time to become someone. It is enough time to fight the Black Knight in front of a jeering town, to carry a dead man's armor to an army of fifty thousand, to be handed a crown he has not earned, and to sit across a table from a princess who has sworn to poison whichever suitor her father forces upon her.
It is enough time to learn that a man who knows the hour of his death is the most dangerous man in any room.
King Theodore has five days to save a kingdom. Princess Zena has five days to keep her freedom. Hayden has five days to live.
